Cory W. Sharp, an Iowa State University graduate, is an intern architect at FEH Design, an architectural, engineering and interior design firm, founded in 1898, with offices in Iowa and Wisconsin.
"I love creating unique spaces that fit clients' personalities and needs. And, I'm a big believer that each space tells a story," he said. "My favorite space in Des Moines is the I.M. Pei addition of the Des Moines Arts Center."
His recent work includes involvement in the Grand View University Student Center and Kemin Industries Worldwide Headquarters. He also creates greeting cards, which are sold at the Heart of Iowa Market Place, which is owned by his mom, Kelly Sharp.
Cory joined the Young Professionals Connection in 2010 and was elected to its board in 2012 as an at-large member. He is serving as the YPC's president this year.
He is an advocate for multi-modal transit and sits on the DART 2035 Advisory Committee and Greater Des Moines Partnership's Transit Future Work Group.
A drummer for 16 years, he spends some of his off-work hours with the cover band, Plastic Apartment. "I enjoy melting faces," Cory says with a smile.
He plays in a local metro pool league. Three of his great loves are his dog, Emma, Tasty Tacos and polar bears.
Cory in his own words:
• One thing I could not live without: "The support of family and friends."
• My favorite thing about Des Moines: "The common support of young people and new ideas."
• One thing I wish for Des Moines: "Passenger rail that connects Des Moines to Omaha, Minneapolis, Chicago and Kansas City."
• "Never underestimate the power of a good high-five."
